SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) -- The South Dakota Department of Education announced a new curriculum that is aiming to "encourage the development of life skills necessary to thrive in today’s world," the DOE said in a news release. Spearfish Canyon colors continue to pop The program is called South Dakota Sturdy and is designed for a counseling program or general instruction. Laura Ingalls Wilder, Crazy Horse and even the Corn Palace are featured within 10 lessons; each designed to "help students develop a sense of responsibility and resilience in their own lives." “Growing up is tougher than it looks. It goes without saying that our students need this type of instruction,” Secretary of Education Joe Graves said in a news release. The lessons were crafted to teach a life lesson, intending to make children more sturdy through relatable South Dakota examples, according to the news release. "These lessons provide insight into the grit and initiative of each of them to live a purposeful and accomplished life,” Gov. Kristi Noem said in the release.
