LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- After mistakenly being released from a Virginia jail, a man accused of punching and dragging a woman after a minor car crash in Las Vegas, is back in police custody. Man accused in Las Vegas attack arrested in Newport News Jose Soriano, 42, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Sterling, Virginia on Wednesday, Oct. 3. He will be extradited to Las Vegas to face the following charges: Battery (3 counts) Coercion with force or threat or force Destroying property of another valued from $250 - $5,000 Soriano was initially arrested in Newport News, Virginia on Aug. 12, 2024, but was released one week later when Virginia authorities didn't receive the necessary paperwork from the Clark County District Attorney's Office in Las Vegas. District Attorney Steve Wolfson told a Virginia television station that “the district attorney’s office made a mistake by not agreeing to extradite him when we should have, but it doesn’t preclude us from continuing our prosecution and he will eventually be brought to justice.” Road rage suspect mistakenly released from Newport News jail Damage to the vehicle caused by the crash involving Jose Soriano and Sarah Goolsby. (Credit: Sarah Goolsby) The victim, Sarah Goolsby, told police she had a minor crash with a vehicle on June 9, 2024, and as she approached the other driver to exchange information, he (Soriano) grabbed her phone, threw it on the ground, shattering it, and then “hit Goolsby with a closed fist, causing her to fall to the ground… he then dragged her and hit her several more times with a closed fist,” the arrest warrant stated. After the crash, Soriano repainted his car and fled from Nevada to Virginia where he was initially taken into custody in August and released. According to court documents, Soriano has a history of violent arrests, including battery, several counts of domestic violence, coercion with force, intimidation of a public officer, and destruction of another's property.
