LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Election season is upon us, and today is the last day to register to vote. “It has been exceptionally busy,” Fayette County Clerk Susan Lamb said. Lamb says there are currently more than 240,000 registered voters in the county. “I’m looking at this whole election as if it’s on steroids, it’s an exciting time, busy, we want to make sure we carry out everything with the utmost integrity,” Lamb said. A large topic surrounding this election: voter security. Lamb wants to reassure Fayette County that their votes will be protected. “We actually have an official process where both of the democrat and republican commissioners on our county board of election each have keys, and they have padlocks that they actually put on these ballot boxes that are maintained up in our office,” she said. While today is the last day to register to vote, people still have 16 more days to request an absentee ballot. Lamb adds that all six public libraries will have early voting on October 31st, November 1st and November 2nd. “I want to strongly encourage people to take advantage of those because I do suspect because of the length of the ballot, that there will be long lines this time,” she said. However you decide to cast your vote, it’s important to make sure your voice is heard For more information on voting in the general election, you can visit the Fayette County Clerk’s website.  Categories: Featured, Local News, News Tags: 2024 election, absentee ballot, Presidential election, Voter registration
