FRIENDSHIP, Wis. (WFRV) - Officials with the Department of Natural Resources say fire crews have contained a 6.5-acre fire at a state park in Wisconsin that started on Sunday afternoon. According to a release from the DNR, the fire started around 3:30 p.m. on the top of the Roche-A-Cri Mound stairway at the Roche-A-Cri State Park in Adams County. Sheriff: Husband in Marinette County shoots and kills wife, then himself As of now, no injuries have been reported but the fire is continuing to burn pine needles and leaf litter with minimal damage to trees. Officials say that on Sunday, crews from 10 fire agencies were able to use hose and hand lines to build containment lines around the fire. The DNR reports that the Nature Conservancy and the UW-Stevens Point Fire Crew are assisting with mop-up and are continuing to look for smoke and burning materials inside the fire perimeter. The state park's main gate is said to be closed for the season and the property will now be closed to the public until further notice as the stairs have been damaged.
