Warning: Details of this story may be considered disturbing. HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) - A Gibson County man was charged with murder after authorities say he admitted to police that he killed his wife and tried to burn her body in their vehicle. According to a probable cause affidavit, Daniel Flaherty filed a missing person report for his wife, Kayla Flaherty, on October 3 after she reportedly left their house at 1:30 a.m. to go to her mother's house. Flaherty told authorities at the time that Kayla did not text him to let him know that she arrived at the home. Court documents showed that Kayla had recently filed for divorce, but Daniel had reportedly not been served the divorce papers. Daniel told investigators they were discussing their relationship as she was leaving the home. On October 4, Daniel told detectives that he had hit Kayla multiple times with a hammer in the living room at their home on October 3. He then said he placed her body in their vehicle and then drove it into the Wabash River and set it on fire with her inside. Authorities found the vehicle in the location that Daniel indicated on a map southwest of Knox County. Inside the vehicle, human remains and identifying documents and property of Kayla were found.
