AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Monday, Oct. 7 marks the final day Texans can register to be eligible to vote in the 2024 presidential election next month. Ahead of the deadline, last week Travis County tax assessor-collector and voter registrar Bruce Elfant shared tips for those still trying to get registered for the November election. Williamson and Travis county officials share voter registration tips Elfant mentioned in the release that the U.S. Postal Service had initially approved for Travis County Volunteer Deputy Registrars to set up voter registration drives at post office locations throughout the county until midnight on the Oct. 7 voter registration deadline, however, that approval was rescinded. Elfant shared a list of other locations that will have extended hours Monday where those still needing to register can do so. "To say that I am disappointed would be an understatement, but now we need to let those who still need to register to vote or update their addresses know what they should and should not do," Elfant said in the release. Elfant said people should not mail voter registration applications after Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, unless they obtain hand-canceled postmarks by going into a post office and waiting in line to have an application postmarked by an employee. Voter registration status can be checked online.
