This would be the second landfall of a major hurricane in the state of Florida in less than two weeks. Meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center said that "while it is too soon to specify the exact magnitude and location of the greatest impacts, there is an increasing risk oflife-threatening storm surge and damaging winds for portions of the west coast of the Florida Peninsula mid to late week. Mandatory evacuations will likely become necessary as the system nears the Florida coast. Heavy rain will spread across the Florida peninsula with 4 to 8 inches of rain expected and locally higher amounts possible. A frontal boundary will push the storm east across the state of Florida and into the Gulf of Mexico. North Carolina will not see any rain or wind associated with Milton.
