FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — One is in life-threatening condition following a pursuit turned crash Sunday morning. Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) Officers saw a vehicle being driven recklessly around the S. Barr St. and E. Oakdale Dr. intersection around 1:40 a.m. Sunday. Officers attempted a traffic stop, however, the vehicle did not stop. FWPD noted a brief vehicle pursuit ensued as the vehicle fled north on S. Lafayette St. At the S. Lafayette and E. Dewald Streets intersection, the pursued vehicle rear-ended a non-involved vehicle: which ended the pursuit. Mugshot for Derrick Benson The driver, 34-year-old Derrick Benson, had minor injuries following the crash. FWPD released later Sunday that Benson has been arrested on Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle Causing Serious Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony), Operating While Intoxicated Causing Serious Bodily Injury (Level 5 Felony) and Criminal Recklessness (Level 6 Felony.) Benson's passenger was in serious condition and later deemed in stable condition by hospital staff. FWPD considers speed and alcohol are suspected to be contributing factors in this accident. This crash is still under investigation.
