FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A family has been displaced after abruptly waking from a nap Saturday afternoon to find their garage on fire, the Fresno Fire Department announced. Firefighters say around 2 p.m. they responded to Hulbert and Cortland avenues after receiving reports of a house fire. Helmet camera footage released by the department reveals Ladder 9's initial response to a garage that was completely engulfed in flames. Crews immediately began fire attack while the following crew began a search for victims in the home. Firefighters say they later learned two people were inside the home sleeping but were woken up by neighbors banging on their window alerting them of the fire. They made it out before crews arrived. Crews report damage was kept to the garage and some exterior parts of home. They add the fire did not extend into the home because the family had an intact firewall. In the end, the fire department says a family of four was displaced and were put in contact with the Red Cross. Investigators report due to the various uses of the garage, and exact pinpoint on the cause has been deemed accidental and undermined. Additionally, crews say the father had been in the garage about an hour prior to the start of the fire, but he did not suspect anything.
