ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The University of New Mexico has seen some changes over the last five years in what students end up studying come graduation time. While many students begin their college careers pursuing degrees in subjects like science or art, UNM is seeing a shift in trends. According to the College of Education and Human Sciences, roughly 300 students per year have switched their major to teaching. NM Tourism Dept. calls for hot air balloon emoji via petition Since 2019, the university said more than 1,500 students have switched their major to a teaching licensure bachelor's degree. In 2022 and 2023, UNM said students who graduated from the university accounted for 33 percent of the teaching workforce in New Mexico.
