KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kylie Kelce, the wife of Travis Kelce's brother Jason, helped coach at a Kansas City Field Hockey clinic on Sunday. It’s the second year she’s been a part of the event that featured four different teams and dozens of players. Kylie played in college and is now a coach at her high school in Philadelphia, but she says the KC community has impacted her as well. “I started playing field hockey when I was going into second grade and it was the sport that just sort of sparked a fire in me,” she said. “It was so much fun to have that moment to sort of give back to the Kansas City community because they've given so much to our family." Field hockey has grown in Kansas City in recent years. At last year’s clinic, Pembroke Hill and Notre Dame de Sion’s teams were the only ones in attendance. Action packed weekend in KC with Kelce Car Jam, Royals watch parties Now, St. Teresa’s and Bishop Miege have added teams and a slew of new players, like June Butler, Izzy Hyde and Talor Sheffield, who play for Bishop Miege. “Everyone works really well together,” Sheffield said. “We communicate really well, and it's kind of how we play while on the field.” Field hockey is typically more popular in the Northeast and on the East Coast, so for Butler, she gets frequent questions about the sport she picked up just this year. “It's kind of like soccer and lacrosse and hockey and on a field with sticks," she explained. "I get a lot of questions for it." The teammates said that their team has a close bond, which makes the game more fun for the players. “Being everyone's first year, we played really well, and I think we have a chance of beating Sion at our next game,” said Sheffield. “We all come together during games, even if we don't win one. We're always so supportive to each other,” Hyde added. Kelce said that seeing the game grow is a cool experience for her. “I'm so excited for the Kansas City area and how field hockey is blossoming,” she said. “One of the best things that you can have is competition because it drives you to be better. So just seeing that more girls are getting involved out here, more athletes are getting involved, and then knowing that that's only going to drive the competition up in the country and make us better as a whole is really exciting.”
