(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The quiet and warm weather continues across the region with nearly every day featuring above average temperatures. We are now a couple of weeks into Fall but most areas are still experiencing summer time weather. Alamosa, specifically, has been embracing a particularly long stretch of heat. In fact, the city is on a seven day streak of breaking their daily heat records. That's right, seven! Since September 30, their daily high temperature has beat out the previous daily record. Breaking one daily heat record can be challenging enough, but to break seven in a row is nearly unheard of here in Southern Colorado. Alamosa broke their daily record again, on Sunday, making it a straight week of record breaking heat. Keep in mind, the average high temperature for this time of year is 67 degrees in Alamosa. Every single day since the end of September has featured a high temperature of at least 79 degrees. This significant stretch of heat and dry weather has also not been helpful for our current drought across the region. As of Sunday evening, the Denver metro and the Eastern Plains are experiencing severe drought. Portions of the Pikes Peak region are in a moderate drought. Unfortunately, the extended forecast doesn't look great for major chances of rain or snow! Be sure to stick with the FOX21 Storm Team for future weather updates.
