(KRON) -- UC Berkeley football fans packed Memorial Glade early Saturday morning as the campus hosted ESPN's College GameDay for the first time in school history. The popular pregame show goes to the location of a different college football game each week. As is tradition, Cal fans aimed to amuse with homemade signs in the background of the show. In a college football landscape that is traditionally dominated by schools in southern states, Berkeley students' reputation is that they are studious and politically left-leaning -- and the fans realize it. Cal WBB player makes a splash with sneaker design Fans who brought signs leaned into their reputation, particularly in contrast to Cal's opponent -- the University of Miami, which is known as one of the rowdiest party schools in the country. Here are some of the messages that were put on GameDay signs: "I thought this was a protest!!!" "Too busy w/ midterms. No poster time." (Written on a notebook) "I only do lines of code." "You people are blocking the library." "DEI vs. DUI." "I have concepts of a sign." "Ott 4 Heisperson." (In reference to Cal star running back Jaydn Ott.) "Miami cites Wikipedia." Cal fans brought the energy, impressing college football fans and media members. Former Bear running back turned NFL star Marshawn Lynch joined the show as a celebrity guest. The party continued through the first three quarters of the game against No. 8 Miami as Cal took a 35-10 lead. However, Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward led a fervent comeback, throwing the go-ahead touchdown with 26 seconds left as Miami won 39-38.
