The weekend is ending the same way as it started: warm and sunny. Lows dip into the 50s and 60s across the board overnight as we head into October’s first Monday. Warm sunshine carries into the start of the workweek as highs rise into the mid-80s across the Piedmont and Foothills. Monday afternoon very well may be the warmest we see for the rest of the year; a sharp cold front slices through the Carolinas by Tuesday morning. While the incoming system won’t bring any rain with it, it will push temperatures into a freefall. Highs fall into the 60s and 70s across the board on Tuesday – they’ll stay there for the remainder of the week. Outside of a stray shower in the mountains Sunday night, chances remain near 0% through the workweek. Milton is now a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico barely even 24 hours after receiving a name. The National Hurricane Center believes Milton will continue to strengthen as it slowly drifts eastward over the next several days, likely becoming a major Category 3 hurricane by midweek. Milton will be a significant system as it approaches the west coast of Florida on Wednesday. Milton will re-emerge over the open Atlantic by the end of the week, but the system will stay well to our south. While the Carolina coastline could see scattered gusty showers on Thursday and Friday, rip currents are the main threat. Tonight: Mostly clear. Stray shower NW? Low: 62°. Wind: SW 5-10. Monday: Sunny and warm. High: 85°. Wind: N 5-10. Monday Night: Variable clouds. Much cooler. Low: 56°. Wind: NE 5-15. Tuesday: Sunny and comfy. High: 76°. Wind: NE 5-10.
