The Nevada Department of Transportation will begin a project Oct. 7 to install pedestrian safety improvements on Wright Way in front of the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles building in Carson City. Wright Way runs between South Stewart Street and Oregon Way, in front of the DMV. Flashing pedestrian crossing beacons will be installed on Wright Way, allowing pedestrians to activate the roadside signs to help stop traffic as they cross between parking and the DMV. Intermittent lane and sidewalk closures will take place on Wright Way through October, primarily during the hours of 7 a.m. -5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays as NDOT installs the pedestrian crossing signs. Access to the DMV and nearby state buildings will remain available. Pedestrian crosswalk access across Wright Way will be available, but pedestrians will be detoured to nearby crosswalks during active construction. Drivers and pedestrians are advised to be aware of workers and work vehicles in the area. “We appreciate our partner, NDOT, working with us to provide enhanced safety to our Carson City customers,” DMV Director Tonya Laney said. “We still ask people to use caution when crossing the street in front of our building.” The flashing beacons will be similar to pedestrian crosswalk beacons located on Stewart Street near the Nevada State Legislature and Nevada State Library, Archives and Public Records.
