WILLISTON, N.D. (KXNET) — Members of the Williston Fire Department (WFD) have been lending a hand in Williams County, as local and state officials rally together to combat one of the largest fires in North Dakota history. According to the WFD, at approximately 4:03 p.m. on Saturday, October 5, firefighters were dispatched to provide support to the Grenora Fire Department, which was battling one of the wildfires. At both 5:41 p.m. and 7:02 p.m., firefighters also provided paramedic support to Ray Ambulance, which transported two burn victims away from the scene for treatment. Fatality confirmed in Ray area fires The WFD initially responded to the fires with a single water tender, but added more support and response teams as they increased in size and complexity. In total, 10 units and 19 firefighters were present at the scene. During the incident, the department activated a voluntary recall of all staff, and responded to 16 calls for service in their primary response area. WFD staff also provided mutual aid to McKenzie County by providing a paramedic-level ambulance transport from Watford City to Minot. The Williston Fire Department states that they are keeping everyone affected by this disaster in their thoughts, and will continue to assist as needed to support their mutual aid partners.
