BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- People were taking steps to raise awareness for Kern County's Down syndrome community Saturday at Stramler Park. Hundreds of people came out to support their loved ones with Down syndrome and enjoyed dancing, food, music and lots of cardio. Co-founders of the Kern Down Syndrome Network shared what the walk meant for the Down syndrome community. "It always just became a vision in my heart that I wanted to do this, just have a fun day for our kids and to celebrate," said co-founder Lettie Gurrola. The funds raised by the walk support programs and services for people with Down syndrome in Kern County. "This is so much more than a walk, I think it's more about promoting inclusion and advocacy and celebrating our loved ones with down syndrome," said Amber Ranger, co-founder of the Kern Down Syndrome Network.
