ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Today will start off with an abundance of sunshine as temperatures quickly rise up into the low to mid 70s. A deep southerly flow will allow for our temperatures to get this warm ahead of a cold front. The front is expected to move through right around dinner time this evening, potentially bringing strong to severe storms to parts of Western New York. Wind and hail remain the primary factors with this frontal passage, however, a spin-up tornado can't be completely ruled out, especially west of Rochester. Storms will be moving quickly, so despite some also decent downpours with them, and flooding risk is limited to primarily pooling and ponding. As the storms clear out, skies will partly clear, allowing for ot temperatures to drop into the low 50s. SUNDAY:Targeting the late afternoon and evening hours for storms to fire off a cold front. Wind and hail remain our top concerns, but especially to our southwest we can't rule out the risk of a brief spin-up either. @News_8 pic.twitter.com/wgADbw1Eml— Liam Healy 🌪️ (@LiamHealyWX) October 5, 2024 Our work week will start off wet and cooler. Cooler air will rush into WNY after the front moves through the area. This will cool off our high temperatures tremendously. Scattered showers will remain in the area for Monday with temperatures only expected to climb into the low 60s. Much of the same will be expected for Tuesday, only with high temperatures reaching the upper 50s. Our average high temperatures for this time of the year is around 65°F, so we will likely see below average temperatures. Scattered showers will linger into Wednesday. Our cooling trend will continue, with highs only reaching the mid 50s. Wednesday looks to the coldest day of our week. The wet weather will finally move out of the area for the second half of our work week. Thursday and Friday look to remain dry with temperatures ranging in the low to mid 60s. It will be a nice way to end the week. 8-Day Forecast For now, our weekend looks to remain dry. Temperatures look to get back up into the upper 60s. Remember, we are still about a week away from next weekend, so let's get through this weekend and work week before worrying about next weekend.
