SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - On Saturday, the Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) hosted the Buddy Walk 2024 at Forsyth Park.
The event featured walkers, speakers, self-advocates, music, and cheering from SCAD athletic teams.
The Buddy Walk events raise awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.
LDSS hosted their first Buddy Walk at Forsyth Park in downtown Savannah in October 2006, with nearly 1,600 people supporting Down syndrome awareness. For the last few years, over 5,000 people have regularly attended the annual walks. Saturday's event was the nineteenth Buddy Walk.
