A teen girl was killed while another teen girl and a young man were injured in an overnight shooting in North Philadelphia. On Sunday at 12:39 a.m., police responded to the 600 block of Franklin Place for a report of a person with a gun. When they arrived, they found a 17-year-old girl who had been shot in the chest, a 21-year-old man who had been shot in the thigh and a 16-year-old girl who had been shot in the face, neck and arm. There were about 60 shell casings at the scene. The 17-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have not yet revealed her identity. The 16-year-old girl is in critical but stable condition while the young man is stable. No arrests have been made in the shooting. Police said four masked men wearing dark clothing fled in a dark blue BMW driven by an unidentified person moments after the incident. The vehicle was last seen traveling south on 8th Street towards Spring Garden Street, police said. As of Sunday, Oct. 6, there were 195 reported homicides in Philadelphia so far in 2024, down 42 percent from the same time last year and the lowest number to date in the city since 2014, according to data from Philadelphia police. As of Oct. 2, 12 percent of the 846 victims of reported shootings in Philadelphia in 2024 have been teenagers or children, according to data from the City Controller’s Office.
