WAUSHARA COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) - Authorities in Waushara County are searching for a registered sex offender who allegedly cut off his GPS tracking device and left it abandoned in a field. According to the Waushara County Sheriff's Office, deputies got a call from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections about David Ryan Thurber, explaining they were aware that Thurber's device had been tampered with. UPDATE: 21-year-old taken into custody for deadly Oshkosh hit-and-run, area reopens The Department of Corrections asked the Waushara County Sheriff's Office to respond to an address on Tri County Road in northeast Waushara County. In a field off of Tri County Road, deputies found Thurber's ankle-worn GPS monitoring device. Thurber currently has a warrant through the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
