FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - If you've noticed the leaves starting to pile up, the city of Fort Wayne will have you covered later this month. The Fort Wayne Street Department will begin collecting leaves Oct. 28, starting with neighborhoods in the central area of the city, according to a press release. That roughly covers the area between Coliseum and Rudisill boulevards. Map of Fort Wayne split into sections for leaf collection (Courtesy City of Fort Wayne) Pickup times Here's the schedule as it currently stands: Central Neighborhoods, Oct. 28 – Nov. 1; Nov. 18 – 22 South Neighborhoods, Nov. 4 – 8; Dec. 2 – 6 North Neighborhoods, Nov. 12 – 15; Dec. 9 – 13 The release noted the schedule may shift depending on the weather or volume of leaves. Collection will not take place on holidays, including Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 28-29 over Thanksgiving. Stay up to date on when leaves will be picked up in your area on the city's website. Guidelines Residents are asked to rake leaves to the curb or park strip in front of their home, but not in the street, the release said. Leaves should be in the pickup area by 7 a.m. on the Monday of collection week.  The release listed other reminders: Don’t put leaves in your trash or recycling cart. Don’t burn leaves. It’s a violation of the City Code and can result in a fine. Don’t place leaves in or over storm drains. Parents should remind children not to play in leaf piles near the street for safety and to assist motorists.  Bagged leaves Those who would like the flexibility of having leaves collected at their convenience may use the biodegradable bag system, according to the release. Residents with bagged leaves are asked to call 311 to schedule a pickup. The bags need to be placed at the curb before calling 311. Bagged leaf collection will run through the end of 2024, weather permitting.
