UPDATE: SUNDAY 10/6/2024 7:52 a.m. (COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) gave an update on the shooting that happened at Atlas Preparatory School on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5. According to police, the shooting took place in a parking lot near the area where a youth football game was being played. Officers said that initial reports detailed that there was an argument in the parking lot between two men, during which time one of the men involved produced a handgun and fired at the other man, hitting him at least once. No other people were injured and detectives are trying to identify the suspect and he is not in custody, according to police. ORIGINAL STORY: CSPD investigates fatal shooting at Atlas Preparatory SATURDAY 10/5/2024 5:15 p.m. The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) is investigating a shooting at the Atlas Preparatory School on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 5, that led to the death of one person, according to CSPD. The shooting took place during a third-party sporting event at Atlas Preparatory School. On the weekends, Atlas rents its sports fields and facilities to external groups. "While this took place on Atlas's grounds, neither Atlas nor any of its students were involved or affected," Brittney Stroh, CEO of Atlas Schools said. CSPD reported that officers responded to the scene at South Murray Boulevard near East Fountain Boulevard, where they found a man around 30 years old dead after a shooting. CSPD is developing suspect information, but no arrests have been made at this point. At around 2:30 p.m., CSPD reported that southbound Murray was closed to traffic between Center Park Drive and Merchant Court due to the investigation, and asked people to avoid the area.
