HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - An iconic ice cream shop in Hanford that has been serving customers for 95 years is now for sale, leaving the community emotional.  Superior Dairy is listed for sale at $2.5 million. Beloved Hanford ice cream shop is for sale "I'm so sad. I live in Huntington Beach. I drove all the way over here just to experience this, this ice cream eatery. And today I find out. It's my first visit, I was hoping to come back, and I find out that they're selling it. And I said, what?" Linda Alvarado said.  Ryan Portugal, the realtor in charge of the sale, tells us the owner of the store, Tim Jones, wants to retire. "It breaks my heart. I've been coming here, like, forever since I was a young girl," Val Hernandez said.  Hernandez drives two hours to Superior Dairy each year on her mother's birthday since she passed away in 2005. "We come here every year on my mom's birthday to celebrate her in her hometown where she was born. And it's like it's bittersweet because we're not sure. Is this the last time that we're going to come here and have ice cream? So, you know, it's kind of a good and bad in a way for us today," Hernandez said. The City of Hanford released a statement reading in part:  We’re hopeful that whoever takes ownership of the building can have many years of success. We thank the owners of Superior Dairy for providing sweet memories and traditions for generations of Hanford families and visitors. Brian Johnson, Community Relations City of Hanford  "It's so sad. And this is like such a cute place, such a cute town to come to come and visit and come get ice cream and they give you so much, so that's a lot of fun. This place has so much potential, so I just think it's sad. I feel like someone could totally pick this place up and revamp it," Anabella Norton said.  Superior Dairy is located at 325 N. Douty St. in Hanford.
