HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Runners will line up at Ashley Reservoir on Sunday to fundraise for the William J. Boyle Scholarship fund. City of Holyoke honors longtime Holyoke City Council president with sign on Beech St. The 5K road race and one-mile walk begin at 11:00 a.m. at Ashley Reservoir on Sunday morning, and proceeds will directly support scholarships for Springfield students to continue their education at Springfield Technical Community College. The annual 'Run Billy Run' road race brings together the community to celebrate fitness, education, and the legacy of Judge William J. Boyle, who passed away after a battle with ALS. Judge Boyle was a proud Springfield native and dedicated public servant. He graduated from Springfield Trade High School in 1974 and Springfield Technical Community College in 1976. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in marketing and a Juris Doctorate from Western New England University. Throughout his 35-year career, Judge Boyle worked as a prosecutor for the Hampden County District Attorney's office, established a private practice, served on the Springfield City Council, and presided over Springfield District Court as its First Justice. The scholarship fund continues Judge Boyle's legacy by supporting the educational aspirations of Springfield students, ensuring they have the resources needed to succeed at STCC and beyond.
