CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that took place in the area of Iron Bridge Road and Jessup Road following a traffic stop early Sunday morning. At around 4:45 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, an officer initiated a traffic stop. According to police, during the traffic stop, a struggle ensued between the officer and the driver of the vehicle. Police said the driver of the vehicle managed to flee that encounter, and there was an exchange of gunfire. After a short vehicle pursuit, there was a second exchange of gunfire. According to police, no officers were injured during the incident, however the driver was pronounced dead on scene. The incident remains under investigation. The area of Iron Bridge Road and Jessup Road will remain closed for an extended period of time, according to officials.
