FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Several people were displaced after an apartment fire in Fresno early Saturday morning, the Fresno Fire Department announced. Firefighters say around 4 a.m. they received several calls of an apartment on fire near Belmont Avenue just east of Cedar Avenue. Upon arrival, responding crews reported one unit of a triplex apartment complex was fully engulfed and immediately began evacuating units. Fresno Fire says they were initially informed of two people who were believed to be inside the unit of origin and searched three times for them but did not locate anyone. Once the fire was extinguished, crews were informed the couple believed to be inside had walked away before the fire ignited and were okay. No injuries were reported and firefighters say they were able to keep the fire contained to the unit of origin, however, fire did creep through a common attic space. As a result, two of the three units were damaged, the original unit being a complete loss. Fresno Fire reports seven people have been displaced as a result of the fire. The Red Cross responded to assist. The cause of the fire is actively under investigation.
