RIVERSIDE — Another big performance from Brady Jones means another big win for the Riverside City College football team. Brady passed for five touchdowns and more than 400 yards, and RCC scored twice on defense in a dominant 76-16 victory over Mt. San Jacinto College in a National-Southern Conference game Saturday afternoon at Wheelock Stadium. “I thought he threw some good deep balls with some consistency (and) overall he performed the way he should,” Riverside head coach Tom Craft said. “(MSJC) is a man team so they’re going to give up a lot.” Brady completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 433 yards and also ran for a 44-yard touchdown in the Tigers (5-1 overall, 2-0 in conference), who have bye week coming up before they play at Grossmont on Oct. 19. “We’re just taking stepping stones every week,” said Jones, who passed for 535 yards and seven touchdowns two weeks ago in a 70-45 win at El Camino. “We’re just getting better, and this bye week is going to help a lot.” Dominic Cox had six receptions – including a 69-yard touchdown in the first half – and finished with 175 yards, and Jackson Owens had five catches for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Jones has completed passes to 10 or more different receivers in every game this season. “We keep everyone involved and it keeps it a lot easier in the locker room,” Jones said. “It helps because then guys are challenging each other the right way and there’s honest competition for in-game reps.” Koa Apana had a touchdown reception in the second quarter but Mt. San Jacinto (3-2, 0-1) struggled offensively and averaged 3 yards per play and just 0.6 yards per rushing attempt. “I think our guys were ready to come out and play but you have to do it on the field, you have to execute,” MSJC head coach Casey Mazzotta said. “It’s just one afternoon, in the scheme of things, and one loss doesn’t doom our season.” Logan Gonzalez was 18 of 41 for 197 yards but was intercepted three times for the Eagles, who totaled 217 yards and turned the ball over five times. “You can’t compound RCC’s big plays with a ton of other mistakes,” Mazzotta said. “It’s all those compounding things you can’t do when you’re playing against a great opponent.” Jones turned a broken play into the game’s first touchdown, running around the right end and down the sideline 44 yards untouched to the end zone. Riverside added a second touchdown 4 minutes later when Jones heaved it deep and hit Cox in stride for a 69-yard score, and a 47-yard pitch-and-catch from Jones to Owens made it 21-0 before the end of the first quarter. “We were able to stack plays together and stack drives,” Jones said. “Getting first downs and not going 3-and-out helps a ton.” Related Articles College Sports | USC LB Eric Gentry out with injury against Minnesota College Sports | UCLA hangs tough, can’t keep up with No. 7 Penn State College Sports | UCLA at No. 7 Penn State: Who has the edge? Marquis Monroe added to the lead with a 15-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter before Esaia Bogar took matters into his own hands with a forced fumble and the 20-yard return for a 34-0 lead after a missed PAT. “Their running back wasn’t that secure with the ball and so I thought maybe I could go for a strip and I got my arm in there and the ball wasn’t secure at all and it kind of just ended up in my hands,” Bogar said. Riverside scored five more touchdowns in the third quarter and held a 69-8 lead before MSJC’s Daniel Mendoza ran for a 4-yard score and added the 2-point conversion. Kiyel Tyler-Shyne scored his first collegiate touchdown for Riverside with a 2-yard run to cap a 9-minute, 12-play drive to start the fourth quarter.
