PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) -- Organizers from the Brown University Students for Justice in Palestine and members of other organizations held a demonstration in Providence Saturday. This rally happened ahead of Oct. 7, which will be one year since the conflict in Gaza started. Demonstrators were outside the State House and then made their way through the streets of downtown as they chanted and waved Palestinian flags. "We're here to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people after a year of genocide after forty-thousand Palestinians in Gaza have been murdered and now as Israel's violence spreads to Lebanon we're here to call attention to that violence," Arman Deendar, who is involved with Brown University Students for Justice in Palestine, told 12 News. The Rhode Island Coalition for Israel also held a demonstration at the State House. "We're trying to show that there are a lot of people for Israel," Ken Schneider, a board member of RI Coalition for Israel, said. Schneider explained that the emotions are still high a year after the events that happened on Oct. 7. "It's a horrible time. Israel has never been in a war for this long," Schneider said. "The main thing is that there's still over a hundred hostages alive or dead nobody really knows that are still in the tunnels in Gaza. So their still fighting really hard to try to get the hostages back." There was also presence from both Providence and State Police. A spokesperson for Providence police said this is typical procedure during a public demonstration such as this.
