FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Live Doppler 15 Fury Storm Team is monitoring an elevated fire danger to conclude the weekend. September ended with needed rain, what will October bring? A cold front will pass through the area on Sunday, bringing with it an increase in winds. At most, wind gusts could reach the 35 mph mark. Wind gusts will already be up around 25 mph early Sunday from the southwest.Winds shift and lower slightly as the cold front moves through around midday.Our highest gusts (up to 35 mph) will take place behind the front from the northwest late in the afternoon Sunday.Winds decrease throughout our Sunday evening.Winds are light by early Monday morning. Combine this with the dry ground and the very dry air moving in behind this cold front, and you have a recipe for field fires to spread quickly if ignited. Outdoor burning is discouraged on Sunday. There is an elevated fire danger on Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center has also placed our section of the country in a zone where the fire danger is elevated. The Storm Prediction Center also highlights us as being in an elevated fire danger zone on Sunday. It will otherwise be a warm day Sunday before cooler air moves in behind Sunday's front.
