October’s first weekend is off to a beautiful start, and the good times will keep on rolling into the workweek. After another bout of patchy fog Sunday morning, mostly sunny skies will return by the afternoon. Highs will cruise into the mid-to-lower 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills as we close out the weekend. The warmth continues into the start of the workweek as temperatures climb higher into the mid-80s around the Metro, but big changes lie ahead for the rest of the week as a sharp cold front approaches from the northwest. The incoming front will be dry, but it will shake up the forecast nonetheless. Highs will drop into the 60s and 70s across the board on Tuesday as lows dip into the 40s and 50s. A powerful ridge of high pressure will make itself at home in the Carolinas behind the front, allowing cooler and drier air to continue to filter in. The Charlotte Metro will struggle to clear the 60s on Wednesday and Thursday; lows will likely drop into the 40s in the Queen City Thursday night for the first time since May 11th – 148 days ago. Unfortunately, it looks like another monster is brewing in the Gulf of Mexico. Tropical Storm Milton formed in the western Gulf Saturday morning and is taking aim at Florida as it slowly wanders eastward. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is forecasting Milton to become a major Category 3 hurricane as it approaches the Sunshine State by midweek. Milton will stay well away from the western Carolinas, but the coast will want to stay weather-wise. Tonight: Partly cloudy. Patchy fog late. Low: 68°. Wind: Light. Sunday: AM patchy fog. PM mostly sunny. High: 80°. Wind: Light. Sunday Night: Mostly clear and cool. Low: 66°. Wind: SW 5-10. Monday: Warm sunshine. High: 82°. Wind: NW 5-10.
