NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Several wildfires are burning in the northwestern part of our state.
Fire officials told KX News those fires are being fueled by the strong gusty winds that are blowing through the area.
There are at least five separate fires that are burning in three separate counties, including Williams, McKenzie, and Dunn counties.
Fire officials in Douglas tell KX News the largest fire is burning near the community of Ray and that 11 homesteads may have been impacted by one of the fires near Ray.
Right now, there's no word of any injuries, and we don't know how many acres have burned in any of the fires.
The fires are also causing some power outages in that part of the state.
The Mountrail-Williams Electric Cooperative says they continue to respond to damage to the electrical system in that part of the state.
The company says customers near the fires will be without power until crews are able to safely assess the damage and begin the repair process.
Currently, the damage to the MWEC system and power restoration timeline is unknown.
