BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The Southern University Jaguars hosted the Nicholls State University Colonels in Baton Rouge on Saturday, Oct. 5. The Colonels defeated the Jags 51-7. Going into the game, Southern was coming off a bye week with a 2-2 record. Nicholls ranked fifth in the Southland Conference with a 1-3 record. The Colonels recently had a 66-0 win over the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils. At the end of the first quarter, the Jags trailed the Colonels, 24-0. The first touchdown came about two minutes into the game when Pat McQuaide made a 32-yard pass to Christian McNees. Gabe Showalter made a good kick. Collin Guggenheim rushed for 14 yards, netting the Colonels' second touchdown with 5:35 left on the clock, followed by another good kick from Showalter. McQuiade then made a 27-yard pass to Quincy Brown, leading to the third touchdown with 2:27 on the clock, followed by another good kick. Guggenheim rushed for the first touchdown of the quarter, followed by a good kick. SU linebacker Derrick Williams was injured when making a tackle at the 30-yard line with about 1:55 left on the clock. With 37 seconds on the clock, Nicholls made their fourth touchdown when McQuaide passed to Treylin Whaley. Showalter had another good kick. The Jags had four turnovers in the first half. The Colonels led the Jags 51-0 at the end of the third quarter. With 10:20 on the clock, McQuiade passed 38 yards to McNees for a touchdown. Then Showalter had a good kick. Corey Warren Jr. rushed 7 yards for a touchdown with 3:33 on the clock.
