Euclid has announced that its reconstruction of East 220th and 221st streets is moving ahead as scheduled. At a recent City Council meeting, officials entered into an agreement with GPD Group for the purpose of performing construction administration and resident inspection services project at a cost of $334,840, according to city documents. “This project is the replacement of the sewer and water lines under East 220th and 221st north of Lakeshore Boulevard,” Public Service Director Dan Knecht said to council. “GPD Group has done inspections on projects as challenging as this one… they have done a very good job, and I would like to use them for the inspection and administration on this project also.” The work that GPD Group would be inspecting would be done by Trax Construction, which was awarded a contract by council in August at a cost of $5,369,928. Knecht has previously said many residents along those streets were suffering from basement backups and other sewer issues due to many of the housing being built in the cottage style of house that was popular, nearly a hundred years ago. Adding to the complexity, according to Knecht, is that the lines are 14 to 21 feet deep, and because of that factor, they decided to replace the waterline at the same time the sewer lines were starting to become a bigger issue. Doing so, he said, saves money since they don’t have to dig another pit and have the crews to do the work already on site. The project is set to be completed by summer 2025.
