AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) - BankESB is inviting customers and members of the community to a free shred day at their Amherst office on Saturday. What kind of winter is expected in Massachusetts The event will be held on Saturday at bankESB in Amherst, and, with the number of identity thefts and data breaches on the rise, it's important to stay on top of your shredding habits to keep your identity, finances, and family safe. It is recommended to shred sensitive pieces of information, such as credit card statements, tax-related documents, and identity cards. There are some specific documents worthy of shredding, however. According to Iron Mountain, you should be shredding junk mail, medical prescription labels, photo and old IDs, travel itineraries, shipping labels, memos, and notes, resumes, and CVs, bank statements, and canceled checks. Iron Mountain's rule of thumb: when in doubt, have it shredded. Anything that contains your name, address, phone number, and bank information puts you at risk of getting information stolen. Play it safe, and take proactive steps to protect yourself. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., or until the truck is full. If you can't make it on Saturday, bankESB is offering another free shredding day on October 26 at the Easthampton office. No appointments are necessary.
