Oktoberfest in Springfield kicks off with German food and fun

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The mighty Oktoberfest on Fort Street kicked off in Springfield Friday night.
Dozens of people stopped by the Student Prince and The Fort for some traditional German food.
The event is considered the largest and most authentic Oktoberfest in western Massachusetts and has been taking place in the city for decades. Owner of The Fort Peter Picknelly told 22News, "It's a great tradition. We got all sorts of great German food, we've got broilers, knackers hamburgers, hot dogs--you name it."
Oktoberfest will resume on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Those interested can purchase tickets when they arrive for 20 dollars.
