Board member and Museum Researcher David Nicholas will be your “conductor” for the journey back in time. Befitting an industrial mining town, Park City featured two railroad yards, two train stations and over 15 different sidings serving various industries. Rails originally reached Park City in 1880. The last train departed the summer of 1988.Harvest FestRecycle Utah Cattleman’s Hall, 911 W Center St., Oakley Sat., Oct. 5 11 a.m.-4 p.m.The festival is free and open to the public. There will be dozens of vendors selling a dazzling array of local goods. You’re bound to admire the character, flavor and creativity of the area! The festival will feature local food and drink, activities for kids, live music, local crafts and more.Annual Scarecrow FestivalMcPolin Farm Sat., Oct. 5 2-4 p.m.Come to the McPolin Farm and build your own scarecrow, displayed for everyone to see. The city provides straw for stuffing, a support along the trail for your ‘crow and a display packet. Bring the items to build your scarecrow including a head, clothing, shoes, props, scissors and any other fun funky accessories. You can also build your scarecrow at home and install it whenever you choose. Just don’t forget your registered name tag found in your display packet. Bring your friends and family to celebrate beauty and creativity.Park City Shot SkiPark City Sunrise Rotary Club Main Street Sat., Oct. 12 Noon-2:30 p.m.Park City Sunrise Rotary Club and High West Distillery welcome whiskey lovers to throw back for a cause at the 8th annual Park City Sunrise Shot Ski. The spirited fall tradition, whose proceeds benefit local grant programs of the Sunrise Rotary of Park City, will take place down the center of Park City’s Historic Main Street. The current world record was set at the 2023 event, when a 2,950-foot-long shot ski served 1,363 shots of High West Double Rye whiskey, used 551 skis end-to-end and raised more than $40,000 for the Park City Sunrise Rotary Club grant program. Parents, guardians, or those not trick-or-treating do not need to register or pay but are welcome to attend.17th Annual Professional Snow and Avalanche WorkshopUtah Avalanche Center In-person session held at Dejoria Center in Kamas 970 UT-323, Kamas Mon., Nov. 4This event will provide continuing education for avalanche workers across the country by sharing case studies and stories from different operations in different snow climates with information to help them in their day-to-day jobs. The workshop will follow the spirit of the International Snow Science Workshop of merging theory and practice. Presenters will include patrollers, backcountry guides and forecasters, highway forecasters, search and rescue personnel, snow scientists, researchers and more. The format will be 15-minute presentations followed by Q&A. All-day, two-part workshop. Not much science, no warnings to stay out of the mountains, no formulas to memorize.
