The road work projects in Summit County on the interstate and state highways are an embarrassment! Please tell me how this is not an appropriate description to the many idle projects that sit for days and/or weeks without any progress while residents, workers from nearby counties, but likely more an embarrassment to the interstate travelers who see the state of these roads.I can only assume a contractor or two with favorable state/UDOT connections won all these projects and is just sending piecemeal work to each project, as there is no oversight. How else can you explain these idle projects? And please don’t say these are the usual summer road projects for maintenance and upkeep.A great example is the I80 about half a mile east and west of the 224 overpass. A poor job of a bitumen patch was put in towards the end of winter after hundreds of complaints to UDOT, and I personally saw over a dozen ski tourists with blown-out tires. This interstate section is back to its near dreadful state while cars and trucks weave around the potholes. I am sure those ski tourists may go elsewhere after that inconvenience, while the interstate trucking companies are likely furious, too.Not to mention the idle project of the I-80 east off-ramp to the 224 that has been down to a single lane for months, and traffic is backed up well past the Jeremy Ranch/Pinebrook exit. I could go on about the snail pace of the 40 overpass that is now closed, or the roundabouts at Silver Creek and the 40 exits Home Depot/Trailside, but hey, take a drive yourselves. What can be done? You as members of parliament and other local elected officials can act individually or as a collective and get active on calling UDOT or find out what stupid process led the these companies winning these projects, and start acting like you live here and it affects us all who you represent. At this stage, you may as well call the IOC and give back the 2034 Winter Olympics if this is how road or building projects are organized.Paul DanielPinebrookThe post Frustrated by roadwork appeared first on Park Record.
