HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - An iconic Hanford ice cream shop is going for sale after almost a century of operation. According to its website, the Superior Dairy ice cream shop in Hanford has been serving the community since its founding in 1929 and has since become a part of Hanford's history. On Friday, YourCentralValley.com learned the shop was going for sale. Ryan Portugal, the realtor in charge of selling the property, says the shop is being sold for $2.5 million. The reason for this is because the owner wants to retire. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the shop has eliminated its dine-in options. On March 3, 2020, Superior Diary announced through a social media post that they will be open for takeout only from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. As of June 2024, some patrons in the shop's Yelp profile say the dine-in option is not available. Superior Dairy is located at 325 N. Douty Street in Hanford.
