FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The Fresno Police Department shared a heartwarming story on Friday about a college student and an officer who connected through American Sign Language, also known as ASL.
In a social media post, the Fresno Police Department says Officer Hull had just finished a call for service when someone approached him and said hello to him using ASL (American Sign Language).
The man, identified as Esteban in the social media post, was wearing the ASL shirt referencing the show "Friends" and was surprised when Officer Hull was able to have a conversation with him using ASL.
"Esteban is a college student, and he was excited to meet an officer who could communicate in ASL," wrote the Fresno Police Department.
"We are fortunate to have several officers in the department with this skill set, along with numerous other languages, to help us meet the needs of our community."
The officer and the college student took a selfie together, which was then shared by the Fresno Police Department.
