Two people were killed and three others were injured in a rollover crash on Highway 34 near Highway 257 Friday morning, according to a spokesperson with the Greeley Police Department. The Weld County Regional Communication (WCRCC) received multiple 911 calls about the deadly crash at around 6:45 a.m. Witnesses told dispatch that a passenger truck rolled over multiple times, ejecting multiple people. At the scene, police and other first responders found that four of the five people in the truck that rolled were ejected during the rollover crash. All five victims including the driver of the truck, who was only identified as a 48-year-old man were taken to a hospital for treatment with life-threatening injuries, but two of them were pronounced dead a short time later, according to a news release. Two additional passengers were also taken to a hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured and was cooperating with the investigation. The crash shut down Highway 34 in both directions for several hours but roads have since reopened. "At this time, it appears that excessive speed, dangerous driving, and unrestrained occupants were contributing factors to the accident," said Kent Keller with the Greeley Police Department. The identities of the deceased persons will be released by the Weld County Coroner once family has bee notified. Keller said additional information about the crash, including possible filing of charges, would be released at a later time. He asked anyone who has information that could help in the investigation to please call the Greeley Police Department Traffic Unit at 970-350-9605.
