PRINCETON — Princeton Day girls soccer coach Chris Pettit wanted a to see a response from his team after a tough loss to Hopewell Valley earlier this week. He knew it wouldn’t be easy against undefeated power Shawnee. The Panthers played hard, and even had a decent spell at the start of the second half, but, ultimately, dropped a 3-0 decision on Friday afternoon at Smoyer Field. “They were, hands down, the best team we faced this season and probably last year,” Pettit said. “They didn’t have many weaknesses, they were very solid, they had good substitutes, they moved the ball around well.” Caitlin Olkowski scored the first of her two goals with 6:23 left in the first half after the Renegades (11-0) spent most of the first half trying to break down PDS’ stubborn defense led by junior center back Ella McLaren and senior goalkeeper Shelby Ruf (nine saves). “It was a good test for us and I thought our first half, defensively off the ball, was phenomenal. We gave up a bit of a soft one because we chased when we shouldn’t have, but against a quality team like that given where we’ve been this season was our best performance.” The Panthers (5-4-1) played better in the second half and carved out one good chance but Makena Graham couldn’t turn in Mackenzie Brodel’s cross at the back post. Shawnee put the game away three minutes later with a quick counter attack that Madelynn Sadusky finished off with a shot that hit the post and went in. Olkowksi got her brace with three minutes remaining. “There was a bit more self belief (in the second half),” Pettit said. “We spoke at halftime of recognizing when we can take a touch and when we can slow it down because at times they stood off us and we played quickly. For the opening 25 minutes, I thought we were well in the game and the 10 or 15 minutes before they scored it looked like we were the team more likely to score.” Lenape 5, Ewing 0 MEDFORD — Emily Gamboa Ordini had 12 saves, but the Blue Devils (2-8) fell to the Indians (4-7-1), who got a pair of goals from Emma Moon to lead the offense. Keira Platt, Carly Phillips and Emily Ramirez also scored.
