SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Enshrinement weekend is just around the corner and the ceremony returns to the birthplace of basketball in Springfield on October 12th. Enshrinement weekend events will take place in Uncasville, CT, and Springfield, MA. Originally scheduled for August, the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced earlier this year that the ceremony would be pushed back to October due to a busy summer Olympics. Sports icons, returning hall of famers, and the class of 2024 will soon walk the red carpet at the Springfield Symphony Hall. "I'm hoping to meet Vince Carter," shared William Ducharme, a local basketball player. Next weekend, 13 legends will be enshrined into the hall of fame, with the start of the class of 2024 including former NBA icons Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups. Other stars being recognized are Lakers legends Michael Cooper and Jerry West. Baystaters are eager for the return of the long-awaited ceremony, "It's nice to have it in this area." shared Cassie Allard. "It really brings the connection to people," shared William Ducharme. The celebration kicks off at 11 am on Saturday, October 12th at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT with an autograph session followed by a press conference and in the evening an awards gala will take place. A full day of enshrinement activities will take place in Springfield on Sunday, October 13th starting at 10 am with a fan tournament, VIP reception, red carpet show, and with the class of 2024 enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Enshrinement weekend will wrap up on Monday, October 14th with a face-off between UCONN and the University of Rhode Island in the Basketball Hall of Fame Enshrinement game benefiting coaches vs cancer.
