BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — According to Business Wire, 71% of Americans are worried about voter intimidation or safety at the polls. This election is sure to have massive implications, and voters are saying they want extra precautions to be taken to ensure their safety when they cast their ballots. A new national survey says that voters at all ends of the political spectrum want there to be security cameras at their voting place, with 82% of Republicans, 77% of Democrats, and 74% of independents agreeing. 1,025 total respondents were surveyed in the U.S. between Sept. 20-24, 2024, as part of the study. People believe the most important places for cameras are at the entrance, at the voter check-in area, and at the ballot boxes. Experts say that since the 2020 election, security camera technology has improved significantly. What you need to know about the November 5 General Election in ND “Today, AI-powered video analytics are easily added to most standard security cameras, empowering officials to quickly search across all cameras for a person, object or vehicle, so they can immediately find the video they’re looking for,” said Dean Drako, CEO of Eagle Eye Network, a cloud video surveillance provider. “AI gun detection and other AI alerts can proactively notify authorities about problematic situations in the voter queue or at the ballot box.” The call for extra security comes as election workers are facing unprecedented threats. According to CNN, suspicious mail containing white powder has been sent to election offices in at least 16 states. In one case, the white substance was determined to be flour. Many locations are taking action to try and protect their workers. Durham County, North Carolina, for example, will equip them with emergency panic buttons. Between the threats workers seem to be facing, and the repeated assassination attempts on presidential candidate Donald Trump, it certainly feels like no one is safe this election, and increased security is probably for the best. The study was commissioned by Eagle Eye Networks, a leader in cloud video surveillance, and conducted by Propeller Insights, a Los Angeles-based market research firm. Close Thanks for signing up!
