MINOT, ND (KXNET) — Get ready and go. That is what nearly 300 people will be doing this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Minot for the start of the BurliMOT Half Marathon. The race which was slated for Saturday was postponed to Sunday due to a wind advisory, but that's not the only change to the BurliMOT that people can expect this year. Unlike past BurliMOT, this year's race will start in downtown Minot and end right here at the Burlington Sports Complex. The course, which will start by the Depot and Baggage Claim Restaurant will take runners through Oak Park as well as the Dakota Bark Park, is different than the previous courses that had runners start in Burlington and end in Minot. Race Director Lindsay Randall says that this year the BurliMOT is expected to have folks from across the country competing on Sunday, which contributed to the change. "We have added more people. We get a lot of people that come from out of state that are doing the 50-state half marathons, this is one of those options. So we get a lot of people from out of state to run," said Randall. However, for Burlington native Danielle Turkbly, the BurliMOT Half Marathon has been a big part of her life. Starving Rooster to hold 10th anniversary party "The first time I ever ran it was the first half marathon I ever ran. I ran it pregnant with my middle son, he and I ran it together as a team, when he was seven, he ran seven of the 13.1 miles, I ran it shortly after I had my third son and also lost my dad that year so it was a really special year when I ran that," said Turkbly. With the weather quickly changing, Danielle says the race is great for people who want to see just how beautiful North Dakota can be. "It's just a really good opportunity right now with fall. You're going to see all the fall foilage, so everything's changing, it's really pretty. I think it offers us an opportunity to get to see North Dakota at its finest.," said Turkbly. No matter how good of a runner someone might be, Randall says seeing people accomplish their goals is what makes putting on this event worth it. "Somebody may have the goal of running an ultra-marathon, someone may just want to complete a 5K. I like to be able to support that for people. I like to be at the end when they reach the finish line and reach those goals," said Randall. If you are interested in signing up, click here. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
