PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A 35-year-old man was arrested in Porterville after an investigation involving stolen mail and check fraud led back to him, according to the Porterville Police Department. Officials with the Porterville Police Department say 35-year-old Abraham Vasquez deposited a fraudulent check, and further investigation showed that Vasquez had been depositing numerous fraudulent checks - with more victims identified as well. On Thursday evening, detectives report that they went to Vasquez’s home in the 1000 block of West Pioneer Avenue in Porterville, where they saw him leaving the area. Vasquez was tracked down and arrested. A search of his home found more evidence of fraudulent activity. Detectives also found firearms and ammunition, which Vasquez was not allowed to have due to being a convicted felon, police say. Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of firearms and ammunition, identity theft, possession of fraudulent checks, and check fraud. He was later booked at the Tulare County South County Detention Facility, where he is being held in lieu of $110,000 bail.
