BERKELEY, Calif. (KRON) -- Hooper by day, artist by night. That's life for Cal Berkeley women's basketball player Jayda Noble. The senior guard has balanced her nonstop basketball schedule with her other passion -- sneaker design. "When you love it so much, it's never work, you know what I mean? So it doesn't stress me out. I am never like, 'Ugh... I've got to get so and so's order out.' I get to just sit down, zone out and be in my own creative space for a while," Noble told KRON4. Fans set to camp out for Cal Bears big game "Whether it is straight out of practice, before practice, I'll get up earlier to work on some stuff. And it's therapeutic too. It puts you in a good space before you start your day or finish your day," she said. Of course, Noble was always a stand-out athlete. The art was always just a fun pastime -- until it became more. "I was always that kid in class that would kill every art assignment. And I took art classes growing up, but I feel like it wasn't until two years ago that I was like, 'I can do this as a job,'" she said. She started by designing sneakers for her teammates, then players across the country took note. Pro athletes followed. Even future potential Naismith Basketball Hall of Famer Jamal Crawford wanted in. "She had done some shoes for (WNBA star) Jewell Lloyd that were blowing up. But just seeing the different levels and the artistic part of how she was bringing things to the canvas was unbelievable," he said. "The second he saw I had an art page and started doing it, he immediately hit me up and was like, 'What can I do to help, what do you need?' He put all this confidence in me," Noble said of Crawford. And like a true artist, the vision for her future is way more nuanced than a dollar sign. "I hope to just grow as much as I can as an artist. It's so much less about the logistics and putting a goal of 'I hope that I get this much money or I hope I work at Nike.' It's so much less about that and more about my experience with it," she said.
