RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Photos provided by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) show areas in Western Virginia devastated by Hurricane Helene. According to Jason Elmore, public information officer for VDEM, the department is in Damascus in Washington County to provide state resources, such as food, water, showers and bathroom facilities, to those impacted by Helene. Photos shared with 8News by the department show flooding and severe damage in several Western Virginia areas due to the storm, as well as the emergency crews responding to the impacted places.
