BURRILLVILLE, R.I. (WPRI) — Workers have successfully righted an excavator that rolled over in Burrillville Thursday. The excavator was working behind a barrier in a construction zone off Douglas Turnpike when it overturned into the woods. Douglas Turnpike was closed for nearly two hours as workers used two cranes to lift the 33-ton excavator from the embankment and twist it upright. The excavator was being used to repair a retaining wall on Douglas Turnpike, which is a state road maintained by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation. The contractor, Manafort Brothers, confirmed Friday that there was someone in the excavator when it rolled over, but he was unharmed. Manafort Brothers is actively investigating what caused the excavator to overturn. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Daily Roundup SIGN UP NOW
