BARRINGTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The human skeletal remains uncovered at a construction site in Barrington belong to an indigenous individual, according to the state medical examiner's office. The bones, which are believed to be at least 75 years old, were discovered by a contractor working at a job site on Elm Lane last month. An archeologist from the Rhode Island Historical Preservation Society confirmed Friday that the human remains were found at a tribal burial site. That archeologist is now working with federally recognized tribes that have expressed interest in the remains to determine who the bones will be released to, according to the medical examiner's office.
